Outrage is caused by a teacher’s honest confession.
Elisabeth Coate Milich, an Arizona teacher, did something brave when she put her salary online. This showed how badly teachers are paid in the US. The post, which has since been taken down because of bad comments, showed that Milich only got a $131 rise, which brought her yearly pay to $35,621.
Milich decided to share her pay stub because she wanted to bring attention to the fact that teachers don’t get paid enough, even though they have to go through a lot of schooling and training to become teachers. Many people were angry and felt bad for teachers because of the problems they are having after reading her post.
Milich has spent her whole career teaching kids. But her pay is a stark warning of how hard it is for teachers to make ends meet. Milich said that even though she graduated from college 20 years ago, she is still paying off her student loans and that many of her coworkers have to work more than one job to make ends meet.
Arizona public school teachers make an average of $47,218, which is a lot less than the national average of $58,353. Milich’s position is especially bad because her pay is even less than the average in the state. She made it clear that she would have a hard time making ends meet without her husband’s pay.
Because of what Milich said, we now know more about the problem that teachers in Arizona are facing.
The fight over teacher pay is still going strong, and Milich’s brave decision to talk about her salary has started a conversation that needs to happen about how much teachers are worth and how they should be paid.
